Madhurakaviyāḻvār - Kaṇṇinuṇ siṛuttāmbu

avidiṭaviṣhayānṭaraccaṭārēr
upanishadāmupagānamātrabhōga: |
api ca guṇavasāttaḍēhasēṣhī
maḍhurakavirhṛudayē mamāvirastu ||
“Madhurakaviyāḻvār—who doesn’t know anything else other than Nammāḻvār; who always derives great pleasure in singing the divine renditions of Nammāḻvār; who is ever engrossed in the auspicious qualities of Nammāḻvār and considers Nammāḻvār as his master—should eternally reside in my heart.”
vēṛonṛum nān aṛiyēn vedam tamiḻ seyda *
māṛan saḍagopan vaṇkurugūr- ēṛu * eṅgaḷ
vāḻvām enṛēttum madhurakaviyār * emmai
āḷvār avarē araṇ
“Madhurakaviyāḻvār—who glorified Nammāḻvār by singing, ‘I do not know anything else other than Nammāḻvār who rendered the essence of Vedas as Tamiḻ songs; Nammāḻvār who is also called Māran and is the chief of the divine city of Tirukkurugūr is our elixir of life’—is our master and protector.”[2]

“Other than my incredible mystic Lord (Kaṇṇan) who allowed Mother Yaśodā to tie Him with a small, rough churning rope, Nammāḻvār, the chief of Tirukkurugūr, is my shelter. When I utter his name, I am blissful and my tongue oozes the nectar.”

mēvinēn * avan ponnaḍi meymmaiyē **
dēvu maṭṛṛaṛiyēn * kurugūr nambi *
pāvin innisai * pāḍit tirivanē
“Singing the glories (of Nammāḻvār), I have attained transcendental ecstasy; I have taken shelter at his lotus feet; indeed, I know no other Lord than Nammāḻvār, the chief of Tirukkurugūr; I will wander everywhere reciting the sweet songs rendered by Nammāḻvār.”

periya vaṇkurugūr * nagar nambikku āḷ
uriyanāy * aḍiyēn peṭṛṛa nanmaiyē
“Wandering everywhere (singing the divine songs rendered by Nammāḻvār), I have been blessed with the divine vision of the charming, dark rain cloud-hued form of (Kaṇṇan) the Lord of the demigods; this extraordinary mercy has been conferred on me because of my constitutional position of eternal servant of Nammāḻvār, the chief of the divine city of Tirukkurugūr.”

punmaiyāhak * karuduvar ādalin **
annaiyāy attanāy * ennai āṇḍiḍum
tanmaiyān * saḍagopan en nambiyē
“I would have been rejected by the pure devotees well versed in the four Vedas as a lowly person who could never be redeemed; knowing this, my merciful master Saḍagopan (Nammāḻvār) came to my rescue and took care of me as my mother and father.”

nambinēn * maḍavāraiyum munnelām **
sempon māḍat * tirukkurugūr nambikku
anbanāy * aḍiyēn satirttēn inṛē
“In the past (before taking shelter at the lotus feet of Nammāḻvār, I coveted others’ wealth and desired the intimate association of women. After being accepted as the eternal servant of Nammāḻvār, the chief of the divine city of Tirukkurugūr, full of golden mansions, I have been freed from the shackles of material attachment.”
942 inṛu toṭṭum * eḻumaiyum empirān *
ninṛu tan puhaḻ * ētta aruḷinān **
kunṛa māḍat * tirukkurugūr nambi *
enṛum ennai * ihaḻvilan kāṇminē
“From now on and forever, I have been blessed by my master (Nammāḻvār) with the realisation to sing his glories; all can see that the chief of Tirukkurugūr, full of huge mansions, will never abandon me.”
943 kaṇḍu koṇḍennaik * kārimāṛap pirān *
paṇḍai valvinai * pāṭṛṛi aruḷinān **
eṇtisaiyum * aṛiya iyambugēn *
oṇtamiḻc * saḍagopan aruḷaiyē
“My master (Nammāḻvār), the son of Poṛkāriyār, accepted me as his servant and nullified all my ancient sinful reactions; I am indebted to spread his mercy, who is the preceptor for sweet Tamiḻ songs.”
944 aruḷ koṇḍāḍum * aḍiyavar inbuṛa *
aruḷinān * avvarumaṛaiyin poruḷ **
aruḷ koṇḍu * āyiram intamiḻ pāḍinān *
aruḷ kaṇḍīr * ivvulahinil mikkadē
“For the benefit of the devotees who eulogise the Lord, he (Nammāḻvār) rendered mercifully the essence of the Vedas in thousand songs in sweet Tamiḻ; his merciful action is the most beneficial one for the world.”
945 mikka vediyar * vedattin uṭporuḷ *
niṛkap pāḍi * en neñjuḷ niṛuttinān **
takka sīrc * saḍagopan en nambikku * āḷ
pukka kādal * aḍimaip payananṛē
“My spiritual master Saḍagopan rendered the essence of the Vedas celebrated by the scholars and made me understand and realize that essence; to be the eternal servant of my master, who has all the auspicious qualities, is the only way to reciprocate to his mercy.”

seyal nanṛāgat * tiruttip paṇi koḷvān **
kuyil ninṛār poḻil sūḻ * kurugūr nambi *
muyalhinṛēn * undan moykaḻaṛkanbaiyē
“O chief of Tirukkurugūr which is surrounded by lovely groves full of cuckoos, without any expectation of reciprocation or even if your disciples are deficient, you impart them the transcendental knowledge (to elevate their consciousness) and give them shelter; I am endeavouring sincerely to achieve the love of your esteemed lotus feet.”

nambuvār pati * vaikuṇtham kāṇminē
“Those who faithfully recite these divine songs rendered by me (Madhurakaviyāḻvār)—a devotee of the chief of Tirukkurugūr who is the devotee of the devotees of the most merciful Lord—will attain Vaikuṇṭha without any doubt.”
