  kākkai vāyilum kaṭṭurai koḷvar * kāraṇā karuḷak koḍiyānē               

“O Mādava! Because my words are not chaste, I am incapable of praying to You; but my tongue knows only to talk about You; I am apprehensive of the offense my tongue may commit; it’s not under my control; if You chastise me for my blabbering words of praise, I cannot control my tongue; the wise men accept even the calls of a crow as a good omen; O cause of all causes! O Lord of Garuḍa! You too kindly accept my words.”

“O wielder of the conch and the disc! With my vile tongue I composed flawed songs; is it not true that magnanimous masters condone the mistake of their servants? I don’t have any other shelter than You, my Lord! My heart does not desire anyone else; if the deer has one more or less spot is it objectionable? At the time of pralaya, You swallow the seven planetary systems to save them and remanifest later; You must save me too!”   

 

435  nanmai tīmaihaḷ onṛum aṛiyēn * nāraṇā ennum ittanai allāl *

  punmaiyāl unnaip puḷḷuvam pēsip * pugaḻvānanṛu kaṇḍāy tirumālē **

  unnumāṛu unnai onṛum aṛiyēn * ōvādē namō nāraṇā enban *

  vanmaiyāvadu un kōyilil vāḻum * vaiṭṭaṇavan ennum vanmai kaṇḍāyē             

“O Lord of Śrī Lakṣmī! I do not know what is good or bad; I just chant Nārāyaṇā. Though I am vile, I do not praise You deceitfully. I am not aware of any way to always remember You; I just call out constantly ‘Namo Nārāyaṇā.’ My only fortitude is that I am a Vaiṣṇava seeking Your shelter.” 

 

436  neḍumaiyāl ulagēḻum aḷandāy * ninmalā neḍiyāy aḍiyēnaik *

  kuḍimai koḷvadaṛku aiyuṛa vēṇḍā * kūṛai sōṛu ivai vēṇḍuvadillai **

  aḍimai ennum akkōyinmaiyālē * aṅgaṅgē avai pōdarum kaṇḍāy *

  koḍumaik kañjanaik konṛu nin tādai * kōttavan taḷaikōḷ viḍuttānē           

“In the form of Trivikrama, with one step, You measured all the planetary systems! O pristine Lord, You killed the demoniac Kaṁsa indulging in cruel deeds and freed Your father Vasudeva shattering the shackles! Please do not hesitate to accept me as Your servant; I do not wish to beg a house, food or other needs from You; attaining the glorious eternal servitude to You will automatically get one those bodily needs.”     

 

437  tōṭṭam illavaḷ āttoḻu ōḍai * tuḍavaiyum kiṇaṛum ivai ellām *

  vāṭṭaminṛi un ponnaḍik kīḻē * vaḷaippaham vahuttuk koṇḍirundēn **

  nāṭṭu māniḍattōḍu enakku aridu * naccuvār palar kēḻal onṛāhi *

  kōṭṭumaṇ koṇḍa koḷkaiyinānē * kuñjaram vīḻak kombosittānē             

“You lifted the earth on Your tusks when You took the wonderful form of Varāha and earlier broke its tusk and killed the elephant Kuvalayāpīḍa! Under the shelter of Your golden lotus feet, I have gained garden, wife, cows, cow shed, lake, field, well, and never lacked anything. While many would desire all these, I, totally surrendered to You, find it difficult to associate with such worldly people.”

 

438  kaṇṇā nānmuganaip paḍaittānē * kāraṇā kariyāy aḍiyēn nān *

  uṇṇā nāḷ pasiyāvadonṛillai * ōvādē namō nāraṇā enṛu **

  eṇṇā nāḷum irukkesurc cāma veda * nāṇmalar koṇḍu una pādam

  naṇṇā nāḷ * avai tattuṛumāhil * anṛu enakku avai paṭṭini nāḷē           

O bluish cloud-hued merciful Kṛṣṇa! O Creator of four-headed Brahmā and the cosmic creation before him! This surrendered servant has not starved even for a day for want of food. The days I do not remember You chanting constantly ‘Namo Nārāyaṇā,’ or do not worship Your lotus feet offering fresh flowers and reciting Ṛg, Sāma and Yajur Vedas, are days of starvation; those days when I fail to chant the holy names and Vedas, and offer fresh flowers are days of fasting for me.”

 

439  veḷḷai veḷḷattin mēl oru pāmbai * mettaiyāha virittu * adan mēlē

  kaḷḷa nittirai koḷhinṛa mārkkam * kāṇalāṅgol enṛāsaiyinālē **

  tuḷḷam sōrat tuyilaṇai koḷḷēn * sollāy yān unnait tattuṛumāṛē          

“Longing to behold You reposing in the state of divine sleep [yoga-nidrā] in the waters of the spiritual Causal Ocean upon the glorious snake-bed of Ananta Śeṣa, with my heart brimming with fervour, and goosebumps all over the body (when I searched and failed to see You), eyes welling, I remained on the bed sleepless; kindly show me the way to attain You.”  

 

440  vaṇṇamāl varaiyē kuḍaiyāga * māri kāttavanē madhusūdā *

  kaṇṇanē karikōḷ viḍuttānē * kāraṇā kaḷiṛaṭṭa pirānē **

  eṇṇuvār iḍaraik kaḷaivānē * ēttarum peruṅg kīrttiyinānē *

  naṇṇi nān unnai nāḷdoṛum ēttum * nanmaiyē aruḷ sey empirānē             

“O cause of all causes! You relieve the distress of those remembering You always! Madhusūdana! One who rescued the King of the elephants, Gajendra from the crocodile! O Kaṇṇā! One who held the huge Govardhana Hill of a variety of saffron-coloured rocks, like a huge umbrella, and protected the cowherd clan from the deluge of rains! O Lord, who killed the elephant Kuvalayāpīḍa! O Lord of unlimited and inconceivable qualities which can not be extolled! Kindly grant me the benediction of remembering You and praising You always!”  

 

441  nambanē navinṛētta vallārhaḷ * nāthanē narasiṅgam adānāy *

  umbar kōn ulagēḻum aḷandāy * ūḻiyāyināy āḻi munnēndi **

kambamā karikōḷ viḍuttānē * kāraṇā kaḍalaik kaḍaindānē *

  empirān ennai āḷuḍaittēnē * ēḻaiyēn iḍaraik kaḷaiyāyē               

“O infallible! O Lord of those who offer prayers to You! O Nṛsiṁha! O master of eternally liberated! One who measured all the planetary systems! O eternal time! One who relieved the distress of the King of the elephants, Gajendra by killing the crocodile with the disc! O cause of all causes! One who churned the Ocean of Milk! My Lord! My Master! O nectarean honey! Please relieve the distress of this poor wretched soul!”

 

442  * kāmar tādai karudalar siṅgam * kāṇa iniya karuṅguḻal kuṭṭan *

  vāmanan en marakata vaṇṇan * mādhavan madhusūdanan tannai **

  kṣemanankamarum puduvaiyar kōn * viṭṭucittan viyan tamiḻ pattum *

  nāmamenṛu navinṛuraippārhaḷ * naṇṇuvār ollai nāraṇanulagē    

These ten divine Tamiḻ songs have been rendered by Periyāḻvār—master of the fortunate people of Śrīvilliputtūr—praying to Lord Madhusūdana, father of cupid, who is unapproachable like a lion for those who do not remember Him but gentle to those surrendered to Him; dark tressed Kaṇṇan, Vāmana, Mādhava who is elegant as the green emerald stone. Those who perceive these songs as holy names of the Lord and recite them with love will attain Vaikuṇṭha immediately.

  kaikkoṇḍu niṛkinṛa nōygāḷ * kālam peṛa uyyap pōmin **

“O diseases (of material desires), you have spread all over my body like the ants swarming all over the pot containing fragrant ghee! Leave my body immediately if you want to save yourselves. The Supreme Lord, who imparted the knowledge of Vedas to Brahmā, reposing on the snake-bed of Ananta Śeṣa with many hoods has made my body His abode. It’s not the same old body anymore; now that my body and soul are protected by the Supreme Lord, you cannot stay here anymore.” 

 

444  cittirakuttan eḻuttāl * tenpulakkōn poṛiyoṭṛṛi *

  vaitta ilaccinai māṭṛṛit * tūduvar ōḍi oḷittār **

  muttut tiraik kaḍaṛ cērppan * mūdaṛivāḷar mudalvan *

  pattarkkamudan aḍiyēn * paṇḍanṛu paṭṭinam kāppē   

“The Yamadūtas have scattered and hidden themselves after burning the record of Chitragupta carrying the signature and seal of approval of Yama, the ruler of southern direction. Now, I am the surrendered servant of the wonderful nectarean delight of the devotees, the master of the exalted and eternally liberated souls, and the Lord in yoga-nidrā (mystic sleep) in the Ocean of Milk with cascading pearls! It’s not the same old body anymore; my body and soul are protected by the Supreme Lord!”

 

445  vayiṭṛṛil toḻuvaip pirittu * vanpulac cēvaiyadakki *

  kayiṭṛṛum akkāṇi kaḻittuk * kāliḍaip pāsam kaḻaṭṛṛi **

  eyiṭṛṛiḍai maṇ koṇḍa endai * irāppagal ōduvittu * ennaip

  payiṭṛṛip paṇi seyyak koṇḍān * paṇḍanṛu paṭṭinam kāppē               

“My Lord Varāha who lifted up the earth on His tusk, liberated me from birth, overpowered my senses roaming uncontrolled like mighty bulls, discarded my material body, released me from material bondage, and having made me realize my constitutional position as His eternal servant, He kindly engaged me in His transcendental servitude day and night! It’s not the same old body anymore; my body and soul are protected by the Supreme Lord!”    

 

446  maṅgiya valvinai nōygāḷ * umakkum ōr valvinai kaṇḍīr *

  iṅgup pugēnmin pugēnmin * eḷidanṛu kaṇḍīr pugēnmin **

  siṅgap pirānavan emmān * sērum tirukkōyil kaṇḍīr *

  paṅgappaḍādu uyyap pōmin * paṇḍanṛu paṭṭinam kāppē               

“O gloomy (material) afflictions arising out of my sinful actions! Beware, you have a mighty opponent now! Don’t try to enter, don’t try to enter! You can not torment me anymore! Stand far away! Now this body is the temple-abode of my Lord and benefactor Nṛsiṁha-deva; save yourselves from doom; it’s not the same old body anymore; my body and soul are protected by the Supreme Lord!”        

 

447  māṇikkuṛaḷ uruvāya * māyanai en manattuḷḷē *

  pēṇik koṇarndu puguda vaittuk koṇḍēn * piṛidinṛi **

  māṇikkap paṇḍāram kaṇḍīr * valivan kuṛumbargaḷ uḷḷīr *

  pāṇikka vēṇḍā naḍamin * paṇḍanṛu paṭṭinam kāppē  

“Look, I have consecrated my heart by lovingly establishing forever there the master of mystics, the fountainhead of spiritual touchstones, and the charming Lord Vāmana! O roguish senses, if you want to escape, don’t tarry, walk away now! It’s not the same old body anymore; my body and soul are protected by the Supreme Lord!”          

 

448  uṭṛṛavuṛu piṇi nōygāḷ * umakku onṛu sollugēn kēṇmin *

  peṭṛṛaṅgaḷ mēykkum pirānār * pēṇum tirukkōyil kaṇḍīr **

  aṭṛṛam uraikkinṛēn * innam āḻvinaigāḷ * umakku iṅgu ōr

  paṭṛṛillai kaṇḍīr naḍamin * paṇḍanṛu paṭṭinam kāppē    

“O treacherous (material) diseases! O devious diseases! Listen to me carefully; look, now my body is the loving temple-abode of my Lord and benefactor, the cowherd boy Kaṇṇan! O deep-rooted sins of past lives! My ultimatum to you, there is nothing to gain here, get lost! It’s not the same old body anymore; my body and soul are protected by the Supreme Lord!”              

 

449  koṅgaic ciṛuvarai ennum * podumbinil vīḻndu vaḻukki *

  aṅgōr muḻaiyinil pukkiṭṭu * aḻundik kiḍanduḻalvēnai **

  vaṅgak kaḍalvaṇṇan ammān * valvinaiyāyina māṭṛṛi *

  paṅgap paḍāvaṇṇam seydān * paṇḍanṛu paṭṭinam kāppē               

“Bewildered by shapely breasts and thin waist I fell into a deep abyss and was dunked in a sinful hellish life. The ocean-hued merciful Lord Kaṇṇan nullified all my sinful reactions and rescued me! It’s not the same old body anymore; my body and soul are protected by the Supreme Lord!”                

 

450  ēdaṅgaḷ āyinavellām * iṛaṅgal iḍuvittu * ennuḷḷē

  pītakavāḍaip pirānār * pirama guruvāhi vandu **

  pōdil kamala vanneñjam * pugundum en cennittiḍaril *

  pādavilaccinai vaittār * paṇḍanṛu paṭṭinam kāppē  

“The Supreme Lord in yellow silk garments manifested as my spiritual master in the lotus of my dark ignorant heart and cleansed all the dust accumulated for years and purged all the sinful reactions, and blessed me by imprinting the stamp of His lotus feet on my forehead! It’s not the same old body anymore; my body and soul are protected by the Supreme Lord!”  

451  * uṛagal uṛagal uṛagal * oṇcuḍar āḻiyē saṅgē *

  aṛaveṛi nāndaka vāḷē * aḻagiya śārṅgamē taṇḍē **

  iṛavu paḍāmal irunda * eṇmar ulōkapālīrhāḷ *

  paṛavaiyaraiyā uṛagal * paḷḷiyaṛai kuṛik koṇmin    

“O splendidly brilliant disc! O Pāñcajanya! O deadly sword Nandaka! O magnificent bow Śārṅgam! O mighty club! O governers of the eight directions! Be vigilant! Be vigilant! Be vigilant! O king of birds, Garuḍa! Be vigilant! Stand guard over this (body of mine) bed room of the Lord!”

 

452  * aravattamaḷiyinōḍum * aḻagiya pāṛkaḍalōḍum *

  aravindap pāvaiyum tānum * agampaḍi vandu pugundu **

  paravait tirai pala mōdap * paḷḷi koḷhinṛa pirānai *

  paravuginṛān viṭṭucittan * paṭṭinam kāvaṛ poruṭṭē   

Periyāḻvār appeals to the Supreme benefactor who has entered his heart—along with His snake-bed of Ananta Śeṣa, the wonderful Ocean of Milk, His eternal consort Lakṣmī born of a red lotus, and His devotees—and sleeps in the ocean with lashing waves to protect his body.

453  * tukkac cuḻalaiyaic cūḻndu kiḍanda * valaiyai aṛappaṛittu *

  pukkinil pukkunnaik kaṇḍu koṇḍēn * inip pōha viḍuvaduṇḍē **

  makkaḷ aṛuvaraik kalliḍai mōda * iḻandavaḷ tan vayiṭṛṛil *

  cikkena vandu piṛandu ninṛāy * tirumāliruñcōlai endāy               

“O my Lord in Tirumāliruñcōlai! You appeared in the womb of Devakī (as the eighth child) after her first six children were smashed on a rock and killed (by Kaṁsa). I worshipped You uninterruptedly and (keeping You in my heart) I smashed the hard knot of attachment of my body caught in the whirlpool of material ocean of miseries. Now I will never ever leave You.”  

 

454  vaḷaittu vaittēn inip pōgaloṭṭēn * undan indira ñālaṅgaḷāl *

  oḷittiḍil nin tiruvāṇai kaṇḍāy * nī oruvarkkum meyyan allai **

  teḷittu valañceyyum tīrttamuḍait * tirumāliruñcōlai endāy         

“O my Lord in Tirumāliruñcōlai! Desirous of washing off their sinful reactions, people in modes of ignorance and passion visit (Tirumāliruñcōlai) in great numbers to circumambulate the sacred springs. I have encircled You within my heart and will not allow You to leave. I know that You are very deceptive! If You try to hide Yourself with Your mystic powers, I will appeal to Your consort Lakṣmī.”

 

455  * unakkup paṇi seydirukkum tavamuḍaiyēn * inip pōy oruvan

  tanakkup paṇindu * kaḍaittalai niṛkai * nin cāyai aḻivu kaṇḍāy **

  punattinai kiḷḷip puduvavi kāṭṭi * un ponnaḍi vāḻha enṛu *

  inakkuṛavar pudiyaduṇṇum * eḻil māliruñcōlai endāy 

“O my Lord in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai! You enjoy fresh offering made of tender ears of wild corn by the throng of tribal gypsies who sing pallāṇḍu, ‘Long life to Your divine lotus feet.’[1] Will it not belittle Your glory if I—who have attained Your mercy serving You, my Master—approach a demigod like Brahmā and stand at his doorstep seeking his favour?”

 456  kādam palavum tirinduḻanṛēṛku * aṅgōr niḻalillai nīrillai * un

  pāda niḻalallāl maṭṛṛōr uyirppiḍam * nān eṅgum kāṇginṛilēn **

  tūdu senṛāy kuru pāṇḍavarkkāy * aṅgōr poycuṭṛṛam pēsic cenṛu *

  bēdañ ceydu eṅgum piṇam paḍuttāy * tirumāliruñcōlai endāy         

“O my Lord in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai! When You went as a messenger of the Pāndavas You spoke tactfully to Duryodhana to arrive at a compromise but eventually because of his sworn enmity toward the Pāndavas, You ensured that all the Kauravas were massacred in the war. Meandering in the miserable material life, I did not find any shelter or solace other than Your lotus feet.”     

 

457  kālumeḻā kaṇṇanīrum nillā * uḍal sōrndu naḍuṅgi * kural

  mēlumeḻā mayirk kūccumaṛā * ena tōḷgaḷum vīḻvoḻiyā **

  mālugaḷā niṛkum en manamē * unnai vāḻat talaippeydiṭṭēn *

  cēlugaḷā niṛkum nīḷsunai cūḻ * tirumāliruñcōlai endāy 

“O my Lord in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai surrounded by water bodies where swarms of fish frolic! My legs refuse to move; tears flow ceaselessly; out of ecstasy my body is unsteady and goosebumps erupt all over; my voice fails; shoulders have slackened; my mind has gone mad with ecstatic love, and I wish to live engrossed in You. 

 

458  eruttuk koḍi uḍaiyānum * piramanum indiranum * maṭṛṛum

  oruttarum ippiṛavi ennum nōykku * marundaṛivārum illai **

  maruttuvanāy ninṛa māmaṇi vaṇṇā * maṛu piṛavi tavirat

  tirutti * un kōyiṛ kaḍaip pugappey * tirumāliruñcōlai endāy                

“O my Lord in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai! Nobody including Śiva, Brahmā, or Indra know the medicine for this sickness of rebirth. Only You, Maṇivaṇṇā is the Healer! Kindly eliminate my rebirth and grant me shelter at the doorstep of Your temple.”  

 

459  akkarai ennumanattak kaḍaluḷ aḻundi * un pēraruḷāl *

  ikkarai ēṛi iḷaittirundēnai * añjalenṛu kaikaviyāy **

  cakkaramum taḍakkaigaḷum * kaṇkaḷum pītaka āḍaiyoḍum *

  cekkar niṛattuc civappuḍaiyāy * tirumāliruñcōlai endāy               

“O my Lord in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai, displaying reddish body hue and reddish eyes because of wielding the fiery disc; possessing strong arms; and wearing yellow silk garments! Because of Your causeless mercy I could cross the dangerous ocean of material life; in this debilitated state I appeal to You to kindly grant me eternal shelter.”

 

460  ettanai kālamum ettanai ūḻiyum * inṛoḍu nāḷaiyenṛē *

ittanai kālamum pōyk kiṛippaṭṭēn * ini unnaip pōgaloṭṭēn **

 maittunanmārgaḷai vāḻvittu * māṭṛṛalar nūṭṛṛuvaraik keḍuttāy *

  cittam ninpāladaṛidiyanṛē * tirumāliruñcōlai endāy               

“O my Lord in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai! You orchestrated the annihilation of the Kauravas headed by Duryodhana, and installed the Pāndavas as the rulers of the world. Day and night, for months, years, millenniums, and through countless cosmic devastations, I remained caught in the inescapable wheel of material existence. Having understood that it was Your illusive external energy, I have taken shelter at Your lotus feet and will not leave You. You know that my mind is fixed on You.”    

 

461  anṛu vayiṭṛṛil kiḍantirundē * aḍimai ceyyal uṭṛṛiruppan *

  inṛu vandu iṅgu unnaik kaṇḍu koṇḍēn * inip pōga viḍuvaduṇḍē **

“O my Lord in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai! You went to the city of Śoṇitapura, the capital of Bāṇāsura’s empire, and slashed of his one thousand arms, with Your disc, and scattered them all around. Even when I was in the womb of my mother, I desired to serve You. Having found You, the most merciful, in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai, will I let You go?” 

 

462  * senṛulagam kuḍaindāḍum sunait * tirumāliruñcōlai tannuḷ

  ninṛa pirān * aḍimēl aḍimait tiṛam * nērpaḍa viṇṇappam sey **

  onṛinōḍonbadum pāḍa vallār * ulagamaḷandān tamarē 

Periyāḻvār, the master of Śrīvilliputtūr, full of luminous mansions encased in gold, has rendered ten songs, appealing for eternal servitude at the lotus feet of the benefactor, the predominating deity in divine Tirumāliruñcōlai, surrounded by springs in which people from all over the world take holy dip. Those who can recite these ten songs will attain eternal servitude to the Lord who measured all the planetary systems.

“O Puruṣottama carried by Garuḍa! Once You accepted me, the great ocean of material life dried up and my life was sanctified, the forest of sinful reactions encompassing the soul has been burnt by raging fire, and the nectarean river of knowledge (about You) has flooded my mouth and gone overhead.” 

 

465  emmanā en kula deyvamē * ennuḍai nāyaganē *

  ninnuḷēnāyp peṭṛṛa nanmai * ivvulaginil ār peṛuvār **

  namman pōlē vīḻttamukkum * nāṭṭiluḷḷa pāvam ellām *

  summenādē kaiviṭṭōḍit * tūṛugaḷ pāyndanavē   

“My Master! My family deity! O my Lord! Because of Your mercy, I enjoy bliss, engrossed in You, which has not been attained by others engrossed in material life. The sinful reaction of past lives, which have been keeping me submerged in conditioned lives, have left me and scattered away.”  

 

466  kaḍal kaḍaindu amudam koṇḍu * kalasattai niṛaittāṛ pōl *

  uḍalurugi vāy tiṛandu * maḍuttu unnai niṛaittuk koṇḍēn **

  koḍumai seyyum kūṭṛṛamum * en kōlāḍi kuṛugap peṛā *

  taḍavarait tōḷ cakkarapāṇī * śārṅgaviṛ sevakanē 

“O Almighty, possessing mountain like shoulders, and wielding the disc and the Śārṅga bow! Like You filled the pot with ambrosia obtained by churning (the Ocean of Milk), I engaged my body to obtain You, the wonderful nectar, and fill my mouth. Since then, the cruel Yama keeps away from the bounds of my domain.”

 

467  ponnaik koṇḍu uraikal mīdē * niṛameḻa uraittāṛ pōl *

  unnaik koṇḍu en nāvahampāl * māṭṛṛinṛi uraittuk koṇḍēn **

  unnaik koṇḍu ennuḷ vaittēn * ennaiyum unnil iṭṭēn *

“My father, Hṛṣīkeśa, protector of my soul! To check the purity of the gold it is rubbed on the testing stone, similarly, I tested my purity by polishing my tongue by constantly extolling You. By Your mercy, I seated You in my heart and surrendered my soul at Your lotus feet.”    

 

468  unnuḍaiya vikkiramam * onṛoḻiyāmal ellām *

  ennuḍaiya neñjaham pāl * suvar vaḻi eḻudik koṇḍēn **

  mannaḍaṅga maḻu valaṅgaik koṇḍa * irāma nambī *

  enniḍai vandu emperumān * ini eṅgup pōginṛadē   

“To annihilate the kṣatriyas on earth You appeared as Paraśurāma wielding the axe in Your right hand; My Lord! I engraved all Your pastimes, not missing any, like drawings on the wall, in my heart illuminating it. When You have come to me, Your servant, will I allow You to leave?”

“You broke the tusk of Kuvalayāpīḍa and killed the wrestlers! Like the Pāṇḍya king planting his flag with the fish emblem, You decorated my head by planting Your beautiful and auspicious lotus feet on it! My tongue bears the scar caused by constant chanting of Your holy names; my mother, You have accepted me in Your service!”      

 

470  anantan pālum garuḍan pālum * aidu noydāga vaittu * en

  manam tanuḷḷē vandu vaihi * vāḻac ceydāy empirān **

  ninaindu ennuḷḷē ninṛu nekkuk * kaṇgaḷ asumboḻuha *

  ninaindirundē siramam tīrndēn * nēmi neḍiyavanē   

“O unlimited Lord wielding the disc! You bestowed on me love—even greater than that You show to Ananta Śeṣa and Garuḍa—entered my heart and gave me a new life. Thinking of Your magnanimity, my heart melts, eyes well up, and I am resurrected.”     

 

471  panik kaḍalil paḷḷikōḷaip * paḻaga viṭṭu * ōḍi vandu en

  manak kaḍalil vāḻa valla * māya maṇāḷa nambī **

  tanik kaḍalē tanic cuḍarē * tani ulagē enṛenṛu *

  unakkiḍamāy irukka * ennai unakku urittākkinaiyē   

“O Lord of inconceivable activities, auspicious qualities and husband of Śrī Lakṣmī! Forsaking Your yoga-nidrā in the serene Ocean of Milk, and giving up Your abode—the transcendental Ocean of Milk, the transcendental sky, and the transcendental Śvetadvīpa—You have taken the ocean of my heart as Your abode. You have accepted me as Your servant.” 

 

472  * taḍavaraivāy miḷirndu minnum * tavaḷa neḍuṅgoḍi pōl *

  suḍaroḷiyāy neñjinuḷḷē * tōnṛum en sōti nambi **

  vaḍataḍamum vaikuṇṭhamum * madiḷ duvarāvatiyum *

  iḍavahaigaḷ ikaḻndiṭṭu * en pāl iḍavahai koṇḍanaiyē   

“Like a brilliant white flag hoisted on the peak of a hill can be seen by all, You, effulgent Lord, have appeared as a radiant light in the lotus of my heart! Discarding Your transcendental abodes such as—the Ocean of Milk in the northern sky, Vaikuṇṭha, fortified Dwārakā—You have chosen to live in me!”      

 

473  * vēyar taṅgaḷ kulattuditta * viṭṭucittan manattē *

  kōyil koṇḍa kōvalanaik * koḻuṅguḷir muhil vaṇṇanai **

  āyarēṭṛṛai amarar kōvai * andaṇar ta m amudattinai *

  cāyai pōlap pāḍa vallār tāmum * aṇukkargaḷē   

Those who can recite these songs rendered by Periyāḻvār, who appeared in a family of brahmaṇas—about his heart becoming the abode of the cowherd boy possessing cool and fresh rain cloud-hue, the Lord of the cowherd clan, the master of eternally liberated souls, and the ambrosia of brahmarṣis headed by the four Kumāras—will become eternal associates of the Lord, inseparable like His shadow.

Chitragupta: The secretary of Yama, the demigod of death. He is assigned with the task of keeping complete records of all the actions of human beings and recommend punishment or reward according to their Karmas.

Four Kumāras: Sanaka, Sanātana, Sanandana and Sanāt-kumāra, who were born from the mind of Brahmā. The four boy-sages, who have nothing to cover their bodies but the atmosphere, look only five years old, even though they are the oldest of all living creatures and have realized the truth of the self.
